Katie Odell presents "General Leslie Groves and the Manhattan Project"

In commemoration of the 70th Anniversary of the Trinity Test, join the Museum’s Social Media Coordinator, Katie Odell, as she tells the history of the Manhattan Project through her own experiences as the great-granddaughter of General Leslie Groves. General Groves, a United States Army Corps of Engineers officer, wanted to serve in combat command. When assigned to a project directing all phases of the project that developed the world’s first atomic bombs, he wasn’t pleased about being assigned to a project on the Home Front, nor was he the easiest person to work with. Learn more about the family history of the Manhattan Project complete with generally known facts as well as the impact of Groves keeping his true war duties hidden from his family. Feel free to bring your lunch or just join us for the lecture.
