John McGuckin presents "The 70th Anniversary of the War Patrols and Loss of the USS Tang"

The USS Tang, under the command of then Commander Richard O’Kane, was one of the highest scoring American Submarines in World War II. Former Submariner John McGuckin will discuss submarine war in the Pacific with emphasis on the crews, training and equipment. The USS Tang, its crew and commanding officer were the culmination of three years of trial and error resulting in one of the very best weapons that World War II produced. The tragic loss of the Tang by her final torpedo fired at the end of another successful war patrol on October 25, 1944 will be covered in detail along with a description of the only successful escape from a sunken sub during the war.
