El Guettar was the first major US engagement with German panzers after the debacle at Kasserine. At this battle, US forces halted veteran German tankers for the first time. American forces included elements of the II Corps, recently placed under George Patton’s command. Depicted in the movie Patton, this battle was Patton's first WWII victory.
