Lagniappe Lecture - "Counting Coup on the Nazis: The Contributions of American Indians in WWII"
H. Mortimer Favrot Orientation Center

Megan Byrnes presents "Counting Coup on the Nazis: The Contributions of American Indians in WWII"

Many people primarily know about the work of the Navajo Code Talkers in the Pacific, but did you know that American Indians participated in all aspects and all theaters of the war? Despite their complicated history with the federal government, approximately 65,000 American Indian men and women volunteered to serve in the military in the European and Pacific Theaters and worked on the Home Front in war industries during WWII.

Join Megan Byrnes, K-12 curriculum coordinator, to learn more about American Indian contributions in WWII, and explore the story of Joseph Medicine Crow, Army man and Crow war chief, who counted coup on the Nazis in Europe. Free and open to the public. Bring your lunch or just come to enjoy the lecture. For more information call 504-528-1944 x 229.
