In the summer of 1944, 63 incarcerated Japanese American men were convicted in federal court in Wyoming of violating the Selective Service Act after refusing to participate in the draft. All were members of the Heart Mountain Fair Play Committee, the largest draft resistance organization in any of the 10 War Relocation Authority camps. Join Assistant Curator Brandon Daake as he discusses the group’s efforts to challenge the military conscription and incarceration of Japanese Americans during World War II as well as their postwar movement to secure redress and reparations for camp survivors.
