Peter Crean presents "The New War Department Building in Arlington: The Building of the Pentagon.”

In the spring of 1941, the Army had a problem. It needed more office space in Washington, DC, to oversee the massive expansion of the Army, a lot more space, and war clouds were on the horizon. The construction of the Pentagon is a remarkable story filled with larger-than-life personalities, crushing deadlines, and a hint of scandal. All of these combined to create what remains today as the largest office building in the world. In this Dinner with a Curator presentation, Peter Crean, the Museum’s Vice President of Education and Access, will recount the story of how and why the Pentagon was built, discuss some of the unique characters who drove the project to completion, and explore some of the myths surrounding the building.

Dinner with a Curator is an evening of dinner and history hosted by The American Sector Restaurant & Bar culinary team and The National WWII Museum professionals. Guests participate in a discussion on a featured topic related to World War II interpreted through the Museum's collection as well as a theme-inspired four-course dinner paired with beverage specials.
