Bob & Dolores Hope Summer Theater Camp: July 6-17

Registration opens online for all Museum Members on Tuesday, February 4, 2020, at 9:00 a.m. and to nonmembers on Tuesday, February 11, 2020, at 9:00 a.m.

During The National WWII Museum's two-week Bob & Dolores Hope Summer Theater Camp, campers become future stars as they learn how BB's Stage Door Canteen at The National WWII Museum puts on a show. Campers, working one-on-one with trained, talented, and friendly Museum professionals in the Museum's state-of-the-art Stage Door Canteen, will be taught the rudiments of stage-craft including opportunities for both on-stage and off-stage roles. The final week of the Bob & Dolores Hope Summer Theater Camp will culminate in a variety show performance by the camp-goers on July 19, 2019 in BB's Stage Door Canteen, which will be open to friends and family. This performance will be professionally recorded for posterity with each family receiving a copy of the performance on DVD. All campers will also enjoy a special behind-the-scenes viewing of original USO entertainment artifacts and costumes from World War II.

Whether your camper is most interested in singing, dancing, telling a joke, or delivering a dramatic line, the Bob & Dolores Hope Summer Theater Camp is the place to learn to do it best. All theater camp attendees will be directed in small groups and receive personal attention. All theater camp attendees will be given their parts based upon both their interests and prior experience. Also, prior to camp commencement, camp-goers will be contacted via phone or email by Museum staff to discuss details of the production in which the campers will be cast, as well as to distribute any materials or scripts that may be needed.

The story of how Bob Hope gave levity and laughter to troops during one of the most brutal conflicts in human history is a crucial component of the history of the war—and a demonstration of how humanity can shine through in the darkest of times. The National WWII Museum is proud to have this program supported by the Bob & Dolores Hope Foundation.
