Research Historian Jason Dawsey, PhD, Presents "Liberation and Tragedy: Northern Italy in the Final Days of World War II"

In November 2019, Dr. Jason Dawsey from the Museum's Institute for the Study of War and Democracy traveled to northern Italy for a week of commemoration for First Lieutenant Loren Hintz, a P-47 Thunderbolt pilot killed in action near Bologna, Italy, in late April 1945. He retraced First Lieutenant Hintz's final days with members of his family and witnessed the tributes paid to them in several locales. Dawsey will explore how liberation and terrible tragedy were so intertwined in the concluding weeks of World War II.
