Walt Burgoyne presents "Cargo Cults"

Isolated South Pacific islands were overrun by both Axis and Allied forces during World War II. To the inhabitants, many of the trappings of modern culture in the 1940s were unimaginable and the items they saw could only have been the gifts of the gods. Being only human, the islanders wanted their own slice of that Promethean pie. They just had to figure out the proper techniques so the gods would listen. Come hear museum educator Walt Burgoyne discuss the aftermath when the 20th century crashed down on the Stone Age.

Feel free to bring your lunch or just come to enjoy the lecture. For more information call 504-528-1944 x 229.
